The Depth of Perdition

I enter the void, feeling empty and lost.
Before me a trail of blood guides the way.
To return home, what would be the cost?

Beyond me, there is no sun and no sky.
Faceless shadows urge us onward.
In my heart, I say a silent goodbye.

We pass under a gate made of bones,
My eyes sting at the smell,
And my body cringes at the sound of a thousand moans.

The shadows take away the liars,
Forcing them to wander in a never-ending maze.
Those who failed to seek the truth will be lost forever, true to their desires.

The thieves and the envious leave us,
They will live surrounded by water that will never quench their thirst.
In life as in death, they will always desire what they can’t possess.

We descend further into the unknown,
Pests climb all over our feet,
Biting and causing us to slip on our blood against the stone.

The adulterers are taken next,
Doomed to live in a garden where the food does not fill.
Never being satisfied will be there vex.

Subsequently we watch the hypocrites go,
Their bodies become twisted together so that two beings turn into one.
They will be two-faced forever in the below.

With each departure we tumble down further into the abyss,
It becomes harder to see and harder to breathe.
I remember my family whom I will forever miss.

The betrayers now say their goodbyes,
They will live forever alone in a deserted city,
Since they chose to abandon their allies.

Next the cowards are pushed away,
Locked up and isolated, given protection just as they wished.
Neither predators nor prey.

We stagger our way down to our final destination.
This will be my end, yet it will be my forever.
I would take back everything for salvation.

First I see those who chose to take their own life.
Their condemnation is torture by fire, but never dying.
If they would’ve known this to be their fate, they never would’ve drawn the knife.

Then I see the murderers in their despair,
They are forced to kill for eternity.
But those they are killing are those for whom they care.

The cries for mercy and wails of agony burn my ears,
My eyes sting from blood and sweat.
Everything I see is the embodiment of all my fears.

I turn around, looking for a place to flee,
Far away from my murderous self.
I return to see my mother standing in front of me.
